Don't Stop Believing
“I had fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13 KJV
“Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13 New Living Translation
If you read Psalm 27:1-12, you will see that David is dealing with something, just as many of us are today. If we are not, we know someone who is. According to the Word of God beginning in I Samuel 18, around verse 6, King Saul becomes jealous of David and begins to pursue him in an attempt to kill him. Although King Saul was after him and he had to flee for his life, David still had his eyes and his heart fixed on the LORD. He was not angry, nor did he blame the LORD for anything he was going through. His confidence was still in the LORD. He was confident that he would see the goodness of the LORD while he was yet here in the land of the living.
I believe this scripture has a two-fold meaning.
- David believed God was still with him and would bring him out alright and He did.
- David kept his focus on God’s goodness: his focus kept him from fainting or giving up.
I just want to encourage each of you today.
Whatever you are going through, whatever you are believing God for, if it is nothing contrary to God’s Word, Don’t Stop Believing! No matter how things look, feel or sound … no matter how long it has been, Don’t Stop Believing! No matter what is going on around you. Whatever it is you are believing God for, whether it is for yourself or someone else, continue to put your confidence in the LORD.
Find scriptures that will strengthen you, encourage you and increase your faith as you wait. For example, if you’re believing God for healing for yourself or someone else, Jeremiah 17:14 KJV reads, “Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved: for thou art my praise.” Mark 9:23 KJV reads, “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
Someone may ask how do I find scriptures related to what I am going through? Most Bibles will have a section in the back called a Concordance, which is an alphabetical list of words with a list of Bible passages that contain the word you are searching for. You can also Google scriptures (for example: scriptures about faith; scriptures about strength; scriptures about love; scriptures about joy, etc.) Remember, whatever you are going through, there’s encouragement in the Word of God, so search the scriptures and “Don’t Stop Believing”.
