I can’t tell you how many times I have heard the quote, “Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes”. Of all the times I have heard it, it has never hit me like it did when I heard it recently. I was listening to the movie, Throwback Holiday. The movie is about a woman who is missing her deceased mother during the holiday season. She’s married with two children, but her husband works too much and her children are spoiled. During the movie, she wishes she can go back to high school and do things differently. It’s a movie; so of course, she ends up back in high school.
No, we can’t have that type of do over, but there are things we can change in our lives. But we must change for that to happen. In II Kings 7:3-8 there were four lepers sitting at the entrance of the city’s gate. “…and they said to one another, “Why should we sit here until we die? If we say, ‘We will enter the city’—then the famine is in the city and we will die there; and if we sit still here, we will also die. So now come, let us go over to the camp of the Arameans (Syrians)…” II Kings 7:3-4 AMP. They had to do something before anything could change. When they did, the LORD caused the Aramean army to hear what sounded like a great army and they fled. “When these lepers came to the edge of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried away from there silver, gold, and clothing, and went and hid them. Then they went back and entered another tent and carried away from there silver, gold, and clothing, and went and hid them. Then they went back and entered another tent and carried [some valuable things] from there also, and hid them” II Kings 7:8 AMP
In Luke 5:4-6 Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch [of fish].” Simon replied, “Master, we worked hard all night [to the point of exhaustion] and caught nothing [in our nets], but at Your word I will [do as you say and] lower the nets [again].” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets were [at the point of] breaking;”
In both incidents, the people involved had to do something different before the change they were waiting for could happen. The four lepers had to change their mindset. Simon Peter had to change the position of the nets.
What change or changes are you waiting for? Better education? A new job? Better finances? Your own business? Better relationships? A better place to live? Better health? A closer walk with the LORD? Whatever it is that you’re waiting for, what have you changed in order to receive the change you’re waiting for?
As for me, with the help of the LORD, I have had to change my mindset, perspective, response and the way I have been doing and handling some things. Even how I see people. I realized if I didn’t there were changes, I have been waiting for that would never take place. Now that I have….things are beginning to change.
It all started with me being reminded through a quote that I’d heard many times. “Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes”.
