Still

Still: 1) In increasing amount or degree; even   2) In addition; besides

There is a song by a singer named Brian Courtney Wilson called “Still”.  In the song the songwriter sings, “this time, I will be still”.  “This time, I will be still”, as I listened to the lyrics of the song I began to think on the word, “still”.   I began to think on it not in the sense of not moving or no movement but in the sense of continuing…. still doing something while waiting; still believing, still trusting, still leaning on God and His Word, still moving forward, still dreaming no matter how things may look.

Psalm 37:4 AMP states, “Delight yourself in the LORD, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.”    Are you waiting on something from God?  I think most of us are, myself included.  What are you waiting on from God?  Are you still believing Him for it?  Are you still trusting Him?  There are some desires that God Himself puts in our hearts and then He sets out to fulfill them, natural and spiritual.  We must be careful not to feel that those desires are too big or too much.  I remember years ago when I had been without a car for a while.  When I was finally blessed with another one, a used Ford Escort, I was happy and content.  Shortly after purchasing it I began noticing mid-sized cars; they were just catching my eye for some reason.  Within myself, I did not want to seem ungrateful, so I just thought to myself, maybe after I get this one paid in full, I will get a mid-sized car but keep the Ford Escort as well.  It was not something I was seeking; as I stated earlier, I was content with what I had.  I purchased the car in March; in July my sons and I were in an accident and the car was totaled.  The accident was not my fault, but I was in total disbelief.  Here I was again without transportation.  But thank God we were all ok, a little shaken up and some minor discomfort but no broken bones or anything.

After a few days, I was able by the grace of God to get past the discouragement and begin to look for another car.  To make a long story short, the LORD blessed me with another car, an even better one than the one that was totaled, and it was a mid-sized car.  What does this have to do with anything?  Later, I realized, although I was content with what I had, God had something better for me and He was the one that had me noticing the mid-sized cars. He had put the desire in my heart.  That was why the mid-sized cars had been catching my attention, even when I was not seeking one. There are other stories I could tell, just like this one of desires God put in my heart and fulfilled, some material and some spiritual.

Psalm 46:10 AMP, “Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations!  I will be exalted in the earth.”

What has God put in your heart?  Even if it is something that is taking a while or something you have tried, and things did not work out the way you wanted.  Are you still believing, still trusting, still moving forward, still leaning on God?  Are you still delighting yourself in Him and His Word?  If you are, continue.  If you are not, ask Him for forgiveness, refocus and begin to. So that He can continue to find us, still believing, still trusting, still moving forward and still leaning on Him and His Word as we wait.
