True Love

“For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below – there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 GNB

There is absolutely nothing that can separate us from God’s love.  He is not like man; His love is unconditional.  So many times, we beat ourselves up over our sins, flaws, mistakes, etc.  God already knew what we were going to do before we did it.  All He wants from us is to ask Him for forgiveness, forgive ourselves and not continue in the same way or continue to make the same mistakes.  Who knew this better than the Apostle Paul, the writer of the book of Romans?  He himself had committed sins and made mistakes just as we all have.  But, with the help of the Lord, he had turned from those things.  We cannot do it on our own, we must ask the Lord to help us.  When we ask Him to come into our life, He is always there to help us; and I believe He is our biggest cheerleader.

God is not like man, “…God is love”, I John 4:8 GNB; “…love does not keep a record of wrongs;” I Corinthians 13:5 GNB.  He does not hold anything over our head or constantly and continually remind us of our past, whether it was yesterday or just a few minutes ago.  That’s “True Love”.  And if God does not do that to us, why should we do it to ourselves or others?  Why should we allow others to do that to us?  He wants us to ask for forgiveness, forgive ourselves, ask for His help, let it go and continue to move forward.  Micah 7:19 GNB, “There is no other god like you, O LORD; you forgive the sins of your people who have survived.  You do not stay angry for ever, but you take pleasure in showing us your constant love.”  Receive the love of God [Receive: to take into one’s possession (something offered or delivered); to hold, bear, or contain; to take into the mind; apprehend mentally].  You do not have to work for it.  All you need to do is receive it.
