“He rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us safe into the kingdom of his dear Son,” Colossians 1:13 GNB
This verse of scripture makes me think of a baseball game when a baseball player comes sliding into home and the Umpire says, “Safe!” Bases 1, 2 and 3 represent places and things we tried or explored before accepting Christ. But then we accepted Christ, who represents Home plate, and now we’re safe.
In an actual baseball game per my husband, a former baseball player, there are different types of hitters. Three of those are the “Base Hitter”, the “Home Run Hitter” and the “Grand Slam Hitter”. The Base Hitter hits the ball far enough to simply get on base. Once on base, the player stays there until someone hits the ball and allows him to move to the next base. Afterward, if another base hitter or other base hitters follow him; he may only move through the bases one at a time before reaching Home plate. The Home Run Hitter does not have to stop on a base; he keeps moving and runs right into home. Last but not least is the Grand Slam Hitter. All 3 bases have someone on them, and when the Grand Slam Hitter hits a home run, all three players and the hitter come home.
The Home Run Hitters represent those that did some exploring but were quick to realize their need for Christ and His love for them and came home quickly. The Base Hitter represents those of us that took a little longer to come home. Some of us enjoyed what we were doing, some of us didn’t feel we needed Christ, some of us did not realize His love for us and some of us were deceived and believed we could not enjoy our lives with Christ, which is far from the truth. Jesus tells us in John 10:10 AMP, “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” Does that mean our lives will be perfect? No, but with Him, we’re never alone, He’s there when no one else is, He’s our help through whatever we are dealing with, going through or facing. The Grand Slam Hitter not only hits a home run that allows him to come home but others that are stuck out there are also able to come home. No matter how long or what it took for us to come home, the important thing is we are home now, and we are safe. We are safe in the arms of Jesus and will always be as long as we abide in, continue with Him. John 10: 28 AMP says, “And I give them eternal life, and they will never, ever [by any means] perish; and no one will ever snatch them out of My hand.” If you haven’t come home, He’s waiting for you so that you too can be safe. If you have come home, do what you can to help someone else come home. Here on earth or after this life as long as we’re in Christ Jesus, “We Are Safe!”
